Increasing numbers of women creates a lack of safe and secure place to call home. But most women who are homeless are “invisible.” As compared to men, homeless women are more likely to be younger and belong to some minority group. The most frequent cause of their homeless is family violence, where they prefer to protect themselves and their kids first and leave their homes.
The possible reasons for increased homelessness among women with children are:
- Poverty: lack of financial resources to afford secure living conditions.
- Unemployment causes financial restraints to secure a home for women with children.
- Low paying jobs are also a reason.
- Domestic violence makes women with children to leave their homes for their security, causing homelessness.
- Lack of affordable houses for such women.
- Conditions as mental or physical illness are also reasons for increasing homelessness.
