This Assessment is designed to test the knowledge that you have acquired throughout the unit. Use the following tips to help you answer the questions:

Read each question carefully. Check with your trainer or assessor if you are not sure what the question is asking.

HINT: Use these questions as subheadings to create a business style report to answer your assessment

Your response to each question should aim to provide enough information to answer the question. In most cases, this can be done with just a few paragraphs. Don’t forget to refer to attachments under the heading (question) applicable, e.g. ‘See attached email’.

Your answers & assessment submission must professional in style (Business), content and format. Maximum font size 11 points: Font Arial or Times New Roman; single spacing; clear paragraphswith appropriate punctuation, spellchecking and final submission will need to be proof-read. (i.e. few missing words or typo’s)

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

  • use leadership techniques and strategies to facilitate team cohesion and work outcomes including:
  • encouraging and fostering shared understanding of purpose, roles and responsibilities
  • identifying and resolving problems
  • providing feedback to encourage, value and reward others
  • modelling desired behaviour and practices

  • support team to meet expected performance outcomes including providing formal and informal learning opportunities as needed
  • develop performance plans with key performance indicators (KPIs), outputs and goals for individuals or the team which incorporate input from stakeholders
  • communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders about team performance plans and team performance
  • facilitate two-way flow of information between team and management relevant to team performance
  • evaluate and take necessary corrective action regarding unresolved issues, concerns and problems raised by internal or external stakeholders.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

  • explain how group dynamics can support or hinder team performance
  • outline strategies that can support team cohesion, participation and performance
  • explain strategies for gaining consensus
  • explain issue resolution strategies.

Part A Role play

Reward and recognition project

Imagine that after 12 months, data shows that your team has exceeded the percentage increase in sales and you have decided to recognise your team for their efforts.

In your role-play thank them for their efforts in achieving the strategic goals, as well as the details of the reward or recognition you intend to provide based on their performance.

 

Part BManaging under performance project

Instructions:

Review the following case study information:

Imagine that there have been complaints to you as the Marketing and Communications Manager from the other two staff about the Marketing Officer’s work.

The staff complained that the Marketing Officer is often talking to friends on her/his mobile and so when the office phone rings they answer the phone. Even when the staff member can see they are trying to answer questions that directly relate to her/his work, she/he does not end her/his personal call. This not only takes other staff member’s time in answering such calls, but also then to make notes for his/her on the call.

The staff has said that the behaviour is recent and up to then, the staff member has always been hard-working and reliable.

You need to meet with the staff member to discuss the issue and identify realistic solutions.

  1. Conduct the meeting with the staff member explaining to her/his what the problem is, why it is a problem, how it impacts on the workplace and why there is a concern.
  1. Discuss and agree on a solution, using your skills to come up with realistic and creative solutions.
  1. Send a follow up email to the staff member within 1 day of the meetingsummarising the meeting and the solution agreed to.

Part C – Establish performance plan

Based on your workplace fill in a performance plan template below for one of your teams projects that you do at work.

  1. Identify at least one (1) issue you have encountered with respect to carrying out your tasks that you have not yet fully overcome to discuss with your work team so that they may assist you in enhancing your performance.
    1. Consider possible processes for resolution of team issues. For example, you may consider leading a brainstorming session, or creating an issues matrix. (Word count: 200 words)
    2. Write a report for your manager on resolution of team performance issues that you experienced why doing your workplace team project. Describe your evaluation of team performance and rationale behind corrective actions in order to provide evidence of your knowledge of:
      1. group behaviour to build team cohesion
      2. how to support team members to achieve goals through coaching, mentoring, training, etc.
  • resolution techniques or strategies. (Word count:500 words).
  1. Describe corrective actions you have actually taken to ensure team goal/s are achieved. (Word count: 300 words).
