On the other hand, technology is advancing day by day which is providing its beneficial features to almost every industry or field. Seeing this advancement, cops across the world (with the help of technology) has introduced E-Cops Information Management system. This system helps to store the secret and authentic information and allow cops to share the information with other police stations.

1.1) Aims of the Research Work

The aim of the research work is to study the useful impact of e-cops information management system on the operations of Contact Devon and Cornwall Police. Moreover, it also aims to identify the need of implementing centralized criminal information system for the efficient working of cops and to measure the extent up to which data can be encrypted using this e-cops information management system.

1.2) Objectives of Research Work

To study and understand the need of implementing e-cops information management system in police stations.

To scrutinize or deeply analyze the operations and functioning of e-cops information management system in securing the authentic & secret data of criminal records.

To understand the measures taken by the police stations for the protection and management of this system.

1.3) Hypothesis

E-cops information management system is helpful in handling the criminal records and the secret information effectively and efficiently.

E-cops information management system is not helpful in handling the criminal records and the secret information effectively and efficiently.

Literature Review

2.1) Introduction

In the context of e-cops information management system, Risius and Beck (2015) commented that it is an efficient system that allows cops to share the information of criminal cases and the involved criminals with other police stations and authorities. This information helps to register and investigate the criminal cases in advanced and efficient way. The system also helps to maintain a record of evidences, medical or forensic reports of the criminals and the eyewitnesses of the crime scene.

2.2) Role of ICT

This system accounts the use of ICT that further help the cops to collect and share information with ease and in faster way also. According to Shoraj et al. (2014), e-cops information management system makes the functioning of the police system faster as it allows to efficiently exchange or share details, evidences and reports of the crime scene that makes the cops to solve the criminal cases in faster way.

2.3) Success of E-Cops in Crime Handling

According to Cho (2015), e-cops information management system is very helpful in handling the criminal cases to maximum extent that helps for the fast work on the criminal cases and makes police station to gather information and complete the case in effective manner. The database is further made at centralized level so that it become easy to transfer the details to maximum number of police stations at the same time.

2.4) Requirements for effective management of E-Cops system

According to Remeshevska (2014), hardware and software both are required for the e-cops information management system. The technology that is used for this system is Java and window 2000 & XP as operating systems. On the other hand, hardware requirements for the operation of system includeIntel Pentium processor along with 5 GB hard disk memory and RAM speed of minimum 128 MB.

2.5) Summary

This chapter deals with the role of ICT in the operations and management of e-cops information management system. The system is a success in itself at global level which has made the cops to investigate and close the criminal cases with successful completion and conclusion. Moreover, it also discusses the requirements of hardware and software for the system.

Research Methodology

3.1) Research Approach

Inductive research design has been utilized in this dissertation to accomplish the understanding of different theories, models, principles and the concepts.

3.2) Research Design

The report utilizes descriptive research design to conclude the work effectively.

3.3) Research Philosophy

Out of the various research philosophies, post-positivism research design has been adopted for this research as it helps in accepting the various theories, background, concepts and values that make it easy for observing the useful information.

3.4) Data Collection Methods

The primary data is collected through qualitative and quantitative questionnaires while the secondary data is collected from journals, articles etc.

3.5) Sample Size

For the collection of data, 50 police personal’s using e-cops information management system and 10 developers of the system have been interviewed.

3.6) Research Ethics

All the ethics and code of conducts were followed while conducting this research work as it doesn’t attempts to hurt anyone’s sentiments or emotions.

3.7) Limitations

Time allotted for the research and the budget constraint are the major limitations of this research work.

References

Cho, M.
