Answer the following questions:
1- Why disaster managers are supposed to understand the terminology used in recovery and response efforts. Should we update the terminology to make it more understandable? What does the National Incident Management System (NIMS) tell us about overusing terminology?
2- Imagine you are applying for a job where your professional and academic research interests will be critiqued. Develop a professional profile of research interests that lists the scientific and humanistic creativities that most interest you.
Furthermore, what types of problems most interest you? Who do these problems impact and how? Are these broad ideas that affect everyone, or are they more personally centered?
1: It is very important to understand the terminology in recovery and response efforts because it helps to communicate with other specialists about special tasks and things. If one cannot understand this terminology well, he/she would remain confused and less effective in the recovery and response efforts.
The terminology should not be complex in its understandability as its main focus should remain towards the task and the things related to the task.
National Incident Management System (NIMS) is a systematic, controlled approach inculcated to guide agencies and departments at every level of giving, non-governmental, or private sector. It is required to operate seamlessly to stop, protect response, make a recovery and reduce the impact of incidents without any cause, size, and location and nature of complexity to decrease the harm and loss of property, life, and environment.
Five components of NIMS approach are as given below:
- Preparing
- Communication
- Management of resources
- Management and command
- Maintenance and ongoing management
2: Professional profile of research interests:
- I am working with FZ poly-bags to develop the biologically degradable plastics. I have an interest in the eco-friendly technologies and biodegradable synthetic materials as well.
- I am also interested in pollution reduction processes. Too keen enough to find and develop the alternate source of energy.
- Issues related to pollution emerged due to the use of non-biodegradable plastics. Whereas the use of fossil fuels has been adversely affecting the environment.
- These ideas are of an extensive range and influence people throughout the globe.
