Amazon has become one of the leading publishing houses in the world. Some positive changes in the publishing industry have been brought up over the last two decades. Amazon managed to lower the prices of the books through their influence in the book trade. In the era of competitive media, the amazon has enhanced the visibility of books as a form of entertainment.

The Bowker’s Books who control the international standard book number (ISBN) runs an invaluable data source which is standard in the US. ISBN was the principal way through which the people discovered the books. The third-party was allowed to use the information by Bowker. Hence, the data was linked to their website by amazon. This made the amazon one of the largest book stores in the world.

Now, the data can be accessed about the publisher and their future releases and the recent releases. Customers were able to access the information from Amazon even if they did not buy them. This change will help customers who search for new books are more likely to purchase new books.

The relationship between Amazon and the publishers started mutually beneficial. The new revenue stream and digital age by Amazon brought in the publishers.

Amazon comes up with the idea of Amazon Standardized Identifier Numbers (ASIN) Amazon equivalent of ISBN. The ISBN is no longer said to be the most useful for recalling information. The publishers and customers got benefitted by ASIN. The various edition of the book, such as an e-book or second-hand book got connected through its help. The e-books on Kindle were also linked and the reviews associated with it and the sale of the second-hand copies as well.

Amazon Prime members exceed over 100 million, and hence amazon offers a massive audience to the authors.

The data structure of the amazon can be used to discover the current trends in the publishing industry as many self-published e-books do not have the ISBN.

Also, Amazon has benefited too many publishers through increasing its visibility through Amazon’s massive amount of data. The book-selling and publishing industry has been altered forever by Amazon.
