List four types of social power, and give an example of each.
The four types of social power are highlighted as follows:
Reward power: this power comes to a role when someone has the potential to provide a report in exchange for compliance with their wishes. Example: a subordinate may find boss personality attractive whereas others (outsiders) do not.
Coercive power: when someone has the authority to give punishment, at this particular time, coercive power comes into play. Example: A child will religiously follow his teacher’s instruction.
Referent power: it comes into the role when someone sees you as a role model. Example: Role models
Expert power: when someone has the expertise and has knowledge in some field, then it is called as expert power. Example: Doctors
