The Nursing interventions which should considered in the care of a grieving clientfor grieving client are as follows:
- The first and the foremost important thing is acceptance. As per the science, the reason why humans are generally very demotivated in life are because they find it hard to accept the present and current situation. We have a habit to live in an illusion world to always think of what might have happened, we generally live in the past or the future and ignore the present. It is very important for the patient to be encouraged and helped by telling them the truth. The biggest mistake generally done is, that people feel it is better to lie at the moment to not to make the person upset. However, they fail to realize that eventually the person will get to know and will have a more severe effect after knowing the truth. Hence at an early stage, the real information must be provided and the patient must be given courage and motivation to handle the truth.
- The next important thing is to make the patient speak as much as he/she can. You should act as a trustworthy and an effective listener at this stage. The patient must be constantly pushed to speak out all their worries which will eventually make him feel better. The patient should be able to trust you completely and should be able to confide in you.
- The patients should also be encouraged to get involved in the various spiritual practices which can make him calm and give peace.
- Narrate to the patient about various motivational stories about how people have lost even more important things and people in life, and have risen up and done wonders. Give the patient real life examples of various previous losses and help him to overcome this situation gradually.
- The most effective and important step which allows the patient to get out of shell, is to talk and communicate with more people. Your work should be to encourage the patient to make new friends, to talk to more people of divers-ed culture. This will help in speedy healing.
- More than a doctor, at this stage the patient badly requires a friend. You should be a constant support to the patient throughout. The patient should be able to trust you thoroughly only then will he be able to communicate with you properly.
